Self Worth

I was talking with a friend today who is going through a really rough time, right now. The thing that screamed out to me the most is how much she's lost sight of her true self worth.

The sad thing? This is true is SO many other places. Not just with her. I think we do it all the time!

Don't you remember when you were younger... before you were jaded? We had SUCH big DREAMS!! We all did. We wanted to make a difference. We wanted to change lives. We wanted to advocate for those who couldn't defend themselves, and we wanted to make politicians shut-up and listen instead of always being selfish and whining and worrying about how rich they could be if they could ONLY be President. We wanted to change how people think - to change the WORLD!

But then we "grew up".

We realized that no one voice is ever heard screaming alone in the darkness. One person can't change the world. One hand can't really touch a thousand more.

Seriously! Who are we kidding?! Where did our passion go?

Need I remind you - One person DID change the world. One person DID reach thousands. One man DID make leaders shut-up and listen.

I'm not actually trying to preach today. *stepping off soapbox* I got off on a bit of a tangent on that one. But really... what happened to your self worth? Guys? Ladies?

Guys - you've taken a job that would pay the bills, probably just to support your hobby or family. VERY admirable and very respectable, but is it really all you had dreamed - some routine job that you dread going to every day?

Ladies - you're dating a man that treats you like GARBAGE. Or maybe he doesn't. But you've long lost sight of the Princess you once were. You had such BIG DREAMS about how life would be and yet you're with him. And making excuses for why you should stay. Letting him defend his actions, or lack thereof again and again and again.

We need to stop making excuses.

Do you remember how much you deserve? Do you remember how loved you are? Do you remember how much you dreamed and wanted for your future? Don't throw it away for some jerk that can't see past his own lame excuse for selfish ambitions.

Do yourself a favor and remember how awesome you are.

So I speak more to ladies, because that's what I know. And honestly - as emotional beings, I think we're effected in a COMPLETELY different way then men are. But that doesn't change a thing.

And I'm not just talking about the mirror you look into each morning with discontent. I'm talking about your "Ness". Your You-Ness. Your Ness is unlike ANY other. How can that NOT be beautiful?

I heard a quote once, but can't find out who it came from - "I never saw an ugly thing in my life: for let the form of an object be what it may - light, shade, and perspective will always make it beautiful."

Interesting that those three things can all be changed, isn't it? But in any circumstance... any situation... there is still beauty.

You're not happy? Make a change. Still not happy? Change something else.

No - it's not easy. But why can't it be done?

Honey - he doesn't deserve as much of you as he's already gotten. Don't give him any more of yourself. He's not worth it.

And the only man who is - won't make you question it, even for a second.

I want, more than anything, for you all to be happy - but I won't keep my opinions to myself any longer, becuase as your friend, I love you too much to do that to you.

Quit worrying about how much it may hurt other people, and make a change that will better You and your future. It's not selfish to follow your dreams.

A book I think EVERY woman should read - married, single, teenager, adult... EVERYONE: "Do You Think I'm Beautiful" by Angela Thomas Check it out.

Don't forget how awesome you are.
